History

Our founding principals, David C. Acheson and Michael F. Doyle, met while studying at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. Since the firm’s inception in 1985, ADP has implemented projects in North America, Europe, Africa and Nepal, with a primary focus on projects in New York City. In New York, ADP has worked in all five boroughs and has a long and successful history of working with major institutions including the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, the Archdiocese of New York, the National Park Service, Project Hospitality, Fordham University, New York University, the College of Mount St. Vincent and the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC). ADP’s international work includes projects in Rome, Italy, Abuja, Nigeria, Kathmandu, Nepal, and Bermuda.

Our firm has been responsible for several significant historic restorations in the New York City area including the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Bartholomew’s Church, The Church of St. Brigid-St. Emeric, St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral and the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph in Brooklyn. In addition to religious projects, our office has led restoration projects at landmark quality buildings including the Plaza Hotel, the Sherry-Netherland, the Ritz Tower, the Ryan Center at Floyd Bennett Field, the Metropolitan Club and the Knickerbocker Club.

Acheson Doyle Partners has a significant land use consulting practice. Projects include zoning studies, air rights transfers, and consulting on large scale projects such as the flagship Fifth Avenue Apple Store development and the expansion of New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Our firm has a strong portfolio of hospitality design for clients such as the New York Marriott Marquis Times Square and the Ritz Carlton Central Park South, and residential design for private apartments, rowhouses, condo conversions, and single family homes.
