Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary

Acheson Doyle Partners oversaw the design and construction of a new church and rectory on the former site of the Sacred Hearts Convent in New York, NY. The existing three-story building was partially demolished and the footprint of the building was expanded to the rear and side yard lot lines. Incorporating the reconstruction of the remaining street-side portion of the old building, the main floor became home to a new sanctuary along with narthex, sacristy, administrative spaces and outdoor plaza. Living quarters were built on the two floors above. Community spaces, including meeting rooms, were built in the cellar. The design of the 20-foot high worship space interior incorporates new furniture and finishes with restored stained glass windows and liturgical artwork from the former church building that stood next door.
