NYPL, Tottenville Branch Library

NYPL, Tottenville Branch Library

Designed by noted architects Carrere & Hastings in 1904, Acheson Doyle Partners was engaged by the New York City Department of Design and Construction to restore the roof and undertake minor façade repairs. A branch library of the New York Public Library, it is one of the earliest Carnegie libraries in New York City and a designated Landmark building. ADP is replacing the existing asphalt shingle roofing system with a wood shingle roof with copper flashings. The existing wood cornice and frieze board, below the roof, will be restored and repainted to the original color. All gutter liners, conductor heads and downspouts will be replaced with copper equivalents. Selective masonry repairs will use bricks and mortar that match the original building fabric. The project has received approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission; construction is expected to be complete by summer, 2020.
