Penthouse Duplex Loft

Acheson Doyle Partners renovated this lower Manhattan penthouse loft situated in a converted 1882 warehouse. The design enlarged the apartment by increasing the area of a rooftop penthouse bedroom, freeing up space on the lower level. The vernacular elements of the 1880s building including timber columns and floor joists were restored and became the genesis for the design aesthetics. The new open layout allowed for an expanded, more gracious kitchen and dining area. A new stair was also constructed to allow access to the penthouse bedroom under an upper-level skylight that brings natural light down to the main level. The mechanical systems of the loft were upgraded with a ductless cooling system, radiant flooring and a new hot water system.
