Acheson Doyle Partners renovated this lower Manhattan penthouse loft situated in a converted warehouse originally built in 1882. The design enlarged the apartment by increasing the area of a rooftop penthouse bedroom, freeing up space on the lower level. The new open layout allowed for a larger and more fluid kitchen and dining area. A new stair was constructed to allow access to the penthouse bedroom under an upper-level skylight, bringing natural light down to the main level. The mechanical systems of the loft were upgraded with a ductless cooling system, radiant flooring and new hot water system. The vernacular elements of the 1880s building including timber columns and floor joists were restored and revealed as aesthetic elements.
