ADP was engaged by the Church to provide architectural services which addressed the need for an accessible approach to the St. Ignatius Loyola Rectory building, as well as the Church and School. The objective of the design was to create a code compliant path with the least imposition to the historic building as possible. Taking into account the access possibilities from the public street and the height differences of the grade, ADP settled on a scheme that systematically sliced a short “ramp” into the plant bed from behind the existing historic wrought iron fencing. The work performed at 980 Park Avenue’s Church of St. Ignatius Loyola was not only a study of how to respect a historic building in need of modern day societal upgrades, but also a study on how to respect its site, while also adding to the Park Avenue streetscape in an appropriate and minimal way.
