Upper East Side Private Residence

Upper East Side Private Residence

20 years after the successful renovation of the Owner’s loft apartment, Acheson Doyle Partners was engaged for a full gut renovation to the Owner’s new circa 1870 Upper East Side Townhouse, part of the Treadwell Farms State Historic District. The design takes a transitional approach:  the inviting historic street façade leads to interiors that mix the modern with the historic to provide openness and light. A rear extension at the basement, first and second floors added substantial living space to the residence. A new fully retractable, motorized glass skylight at the roof—combined with the strategic placement of a stair lightwell—brings light all the way down to the first floor. Another lightwell at the roof brings light through the third floor to the second floor master bathroom in order to enhance natural light at the master bedroom suite.

The historic renovation of the street façade and a new contextual elevation at the rear façade was approved by the NYC Landmarks Preservation.
