Penthouse Loft, Tribeca
Acheson Doyle Partners renovated an 1,820 sf lower Manhattan duplex penthouse loft, situated in a Neo-Grec/Queen Anne style warehouse built in 1882 and converted to condominiums during the 1980s. The design created an enlargement of the apartment by increasing the area of a rooftop penthouse second level to create a new penthouse bedroom and achieved a more fluid and open layout on the lower main level for a larger and more open kitchen and living/dining area. A stair was carefully inserted to access the penthouse bedroom under an upper-level skylight, bringing natural light down to the lower/main living level. The mechanical systems were upgraded with a ductless cooling system, radiant flooring, and new hot water heating system. The vernacular elements of the 1880s building timber columns and floor joists were restored and revealed as aesthetic elements.
