In Progress – St. Joseph’s Chapel
After a tragic fire burned down their previous chapel in 2018, the Salesian Sisters came to Acheson Doyle Partners to design a new chapel and to seamlessly integrate it into the existing Catholic school’s campus. With the previous chapel constructed in the 1970s, one of the primary goals was to bring the new design up to code, particularly ADA compliancy. As part of the supporting spaces for the new chapel design, and to comply with ADA, an elevator tower was added. Its strategic placement allowed it to make an adjacent existing building on campus ADA compliant as well. A main design feature was the inclusion of custom designed fiberglass arched beams used to bring the focus to the center gable which draws the eye toward the sanctuary and apse beyond. The new chapel design also includes the reintegration of salvage stained glass from the original chapel.
