A Behind-the-Scenes Glimpse into the Metropolitan Club's Exterior Restoration
JUNE 6, 2024
ADP Architects gathered a small but mighty team of historic preservationists, building managers, restoration experts and artisans to meticulously clean and restore the façade of the famed Metropolitan Club on Fifth Avenue. The 6-month effort cleared over a century of dirt, grime and debris from the marble walls and details, exposing the façade’s original color, sparkle and charm.
Built in 1896 in a restrained Italianate style, the Metropolitan Club occupies 100 feet of frontage on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, with an architectural emphasis on ground-hugging horizontals and a simplification of Italianate detailing on its Tuckahoe Marble façade.
Below are before/after photographs and process shots of the detailed façade cleaning effort.
